It was an online advertisement about the NSW Government Infrastructure Traineeship that caught the eye of Hailee Strawns.
At the time, the Dubbo local was juggling work in hospitality and completing a Business Diploma with the University of New England but was on the lookout to find the right opportunity, in the right industry, where she could thrive
After successfully applying for the program in 2020, Hailee found herself on a placement as a trainee with EnviroScience Solutions in her hometown and has never looked back.
Hailee says during the two-year program, which also requires completion of a TAFE course, she found her people and a career pathway she’s passionate about.
“During my placement at EnviroScience Solutions, I tried my hand at everything from soil and water testing in the field, laboratory work, asbestos analysis, face-to-face client experience and developing reports. It was fantastic!” Hailee said
At the end of her traineeship, Hailee was delighted to be offered a permanent role in Project Support
She credits EnviroScience Solutions Founder and CEO Juliet Duffy with providing unwavering support to trainees and calls her an inspiration
“Juliet is such a remarkable role model for everyone in the team, especially young women. She’s regarded as an industry powerhouse for establishing such a successful, STEM focussed business with its own laboratory, right here in regional NSW,” she said
Hailee says there is a world of opportunity at EnviroScience and a role for everyone.
“When I started at EnviroScience, I didn’t have a STEM background, but it didn’t matter. If you are interested in learning on the job, enjoy working with regional clients and want to be part of a team really helping the environment and human health, this is the place for you
The annual NSW Government Infrastructure Traineeship is run through Apprenticeship Careers Australia.
