Microbial Testing – Water Egress After Bushfires – Surf Beach

Total airborne spore and bacterial counts and then species identification of the fungal and bacteria colonies identified Alternaria, Aspergillus, Baccillus, Bipolaris, Cladosporium, Geotrichum, Mucor and Penicillium spp.

The family had put into action their bushfire plan which involved installing a sprinkler on the roof to deter embers form a bushfire. Unfortunately, the hose and sprinkler had flipped and water was pouring through the light fittings when they returned from shelter. Thankfully the house was saved.

Enviroscience scientists visited the site and undertook air sampling and random swabs. The species were grown and analysed in EnviroScience’s laboratory for total airborne spore and bacterial counts and then species identification of the fungal and bacteria colonies. Recommendations for the remediation of the residence were provided based upon the scientific results. Species identified included Alternaria, Aspergillus, Baccillus, Bipolaris, Cladosporium, Geotrichum, Mucor and Penicillium spp.
